May 9, 2016 - Best Album Award
Kathryn's album, Patterns of Sun and Shade won the Zone Music Reporter (ZMR) award for Best Piano Album with Instrumentation for 2015 from Zone Music Reporter, the organization that tracks album play on the radio and Internet. She was given the award by pianist Ann Sweeten at the 12th Annual ZMR Music Awards Show at the Joy Theater in New Orleans on Saturday night, May 7, 2016. Other nominees included Heidi Ann Breyer, Peter Calandra, Scot Cossu, and Angelo Rapan. All of Kathryn's first four albums were nominated for ZMR awards, and she previously was the winner for Best Holiday Album of 2013 for What the Winter Said.

February 2015
Kathryn's latest album, Patterns of Sun and Shade, was released January 1 of this year. The CD has been getting a lot of airplay on both FM and Internet radio, and it has been featured on several stations. Kathryn played songs from the album at her first Boulder, Colorado performance, February 26, at e-Town, with Louis Colaiannia, a Colorado pianist also produced by Will Ackerman.

May 2014

Kathryn Kaye's third album, What the Winter Said, was the winner of the Zone Music Reporter (ZMR) award for Best Holiday Album of 2013.  Kathryn was given the award by pianist Catherine Marie Charlton at the ZMR Awards Show, which was held for the second year at the Joy Theater in New Orleans, on Saturday May 17, 2014.  Last year Kathryn shared Album of the Year honors with Will Ackerman and other artists produced by Will at his Imaginary Road Studio for a compilation album, The Gathering.
 
What the Winter Said, Kathryn’s third CD, was released November 1, and finished the month at number 2 on the ZMR Top 100 Chart.  The rankings for December found What the Winter Said at #1 on the chart.

May 2013

Kathryn's second CD, Heavy as a Feather, was nominated for Best Instrumental Album--Piano for the 9th Annual ZoneMusicReporter (ZMR) Music Awards show, which was held in New Orleans on Saturday May 11th, 2013. The album made it to #2 on the ZMR Top 100 Chart, stayed in the Top 10 for three months, and remained on the chart for 10 months in 2012. Heavy as a Feather got great reviews, and you can check them out on this site. She shared the ZMR Album of the Year award for Mountain Laurel, her contribution to the album The Gathering, which was produced by Will Ackerman. The Gathering, a compilation of music by a number of artists produced by Will, also won the award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for 2012.

September 2012


In March, Kathryn recorded the piano tracks for a third album at Will Ackerman's studio in Vermont.  The overdubs were done in early summer, and the CD was mixed and mastered by Tom Eaton in the fall.  The exact release date is uncertain, but Kathryn's not taking any breaks.  In October, she's going back into the studio to start work on album number four, for which most of the songs have already been written.

Spring 2012

On April 20, Kathryn was interviewed on One World Radio (OWR) in the U.K., by Steve Sheppard and Chrissie Monck on their show, The Perfect Remedy.  Her album Heavy as a Feather was number 10 on the OWR Top 20 for March. As of April 21, the interview was available as a podcast at http://oneworldradio.org.uk/#/podcasts/45555774313.  It's embedded in the rest of the show, but in addition to hearing Kathryn you'll get to listen to some other great music--and Steve and Chrissie are wonderful hosts.


Winter 2012:

Kathryn's second album, Heavy as a Feather, was released December 1, 2011, and immediately sailed to #3 on the
Zone Music Reporter (ZMR) airplay chart for the month of December.  For January it move up a notch to #2.  ZMR is the organization that, among other things, tracks radio airplay across a number of musical genres, including acoustic instrumental, jazz, neo-classical, solo piano, new age, and others.  The CD is available at most online retailers, including CD Baby,amazon.com, iTunes, and the other usual online suspects.

Heavy as a Feather was chosen by Jelke Bethlehem, of Radio Rijnwoude in The Netherlands, as Featured Album for the week of January 22, 2012.

Kathryn's first album, Dreaming Still, was nominated for Best Instrumental Album - Piano in the 8th Annual ZMR Music Awards for music released last year.  Kathryn also was nominated for Best New Artist.  After three months in the number one spot on the ZMR Top 100, and 10 months on the charts overall, Dreaming Still was ranked number 2 (out of more than 2300 recordings) on the ZMR list of the Top 100 Recordings of 2011.  Dreaming Still continues to be highly acclaimed, and Kathy Parsons of MainlyPiano.com ranked it among her
favorite albums of 2011.

"Time Moving Slowly," the lead track from Dreaming Still, won Honorable Mention in the Instrumental category of the international 16th Annual USA Songwriting Competition (2011).  This put the song in second place for all entrants in that category.


Autumn 2011:

Kathryn opened for Will Ackerman in a benefit concert for Canada Without Poverty, in Ottawa, Ontario on September 30, 2011.  Also on stage were Jill Haley (English horn), David Cullen (guitar), and Alvaro de Minaya.  Alvaro is an Argentine percussionist now living in Ontario.

"Requiem," composed by Kathryn shortly after the destruction of the World Trade Center, was one of a select group of songs featured on the September 11 memorial shows by
Women of Substance Radio.  "Requiem" has not yet been released on CD.
